My Favorite Retreat Dance Music

May 25, 2016

I’ve just led one of my annual Taos writing retreats. I’m flush with gratitude for the courage of women who create and for the sanctity of retreat space that fosters such alchemy. And I’m grateful for Marianne Elliott for being with me in this adventure!

One of the many alchemical elements of Taos is morning dance. It started 8 (or maybe 10?) years ago when Lila Danielle was a participant and asked if she could invite women to dance before breakfast. She created a sacred space and offered a spiritually nourishing playlist.

I was hooked.

I had done all kinds of dance before – YogaDance, 5 Rhythms, this fun Friday night dance in Santa Barbara for families. I believe dancing is medicine. But what I found through Lila that I had not before was permission. Permission to let my body speak, express, enjoy. What I discovered was a powerful non-verbal way for women to free their creative voices through their bodies.

Ever since then, I’ve included dance at my retreats. It’s become a favorite part for many women.

In honor of the women I am lucky enough to create retreats for, and everyone who loves to boogie, here are a few of my current favorite dance tunes. This is not a playlist – you have to come to a retreat for that. Now get shaking!
