Imagine how it would feel to devote an entire day to your writing.
A day in which instead of staring at the screen in frustration
or editing the same piece of writing to death
or wondering where to go next
You’re writing with joy! With intention! With friends and with a seasoned writing coach and writing pro who's an expert at moving you past fears, blocks and stuck places into fresh thrilling authentic writing.
So put your phone in a drawer, lock your studio door or get out of the house, and get ready to give yourself the gift of nurturing your voice, your stories, your words.
I’ve been teaching in-person writing retreats and workshops for 26 years. And I absolutely love being knee-to-knee with writers and creatives, teaching them how to bring their words to the page with more joy, self-compassion, and truth.
It’s really life-changing.
And I know that it’s not easy to travel, to take 5+ days off, and to afford my retreats. I read your emails telling me how much you want to retreat and can’t and my heart hurts.
That’s why I’m hosting three virtual writing retreats in 2019 to give you the same retreat experience to unfurl your writing like maybe nothing else has before.
Come to get a bunch of writing done on a project. To jumpstart a book or a blog. Come for the love of the craft. Or to get started again. To gain insight into your project. To reconnect with your voice. To love writing again!
Gather your favorite writing materials and clear your schedule for the date (or dates!) of your choice.
Show up & let the process take you.
Sink deep into your writing, calm the critical voices, and get a lot of words written and/or revised with joy.

We all want to write more consistently. We read articles and books about it, and study other writer's routines. But what if the answer was inside of you, as close as your breath and your beautiful heart?
I'd love to spend a day with you, playing with self-compassion and other meditation and awareness approaches while writing. Let's open up the possibility there is a whole different way to write and create consistently. You can have a satisfying consistent writing life.
We will practice:
During this one day retreat, you will weave in and out of meditation and writing, reflecting on how you can use these techniques on your own. Writing doesn't have to feel like opening a vein!
This retreat is suitable for all writers and genres.
It's almost the end of the year and you have writing to finish before the holidays start. Join me for a super-productive super-fun writing day in which we combine self-care with lots of writing.
This is perfect for any writer who needs a burst of support and fun to get her project into a good place to meet a deadline or put it away until the new year. It's also a perfect fit if you are doing NaNoWriMo.
This retreat is suitable for all writers and genres.
When I was in your Taos retreat in 2017, I broke through the writer's block that kept me from even starting my book. I wrote furiously for some a year or so, but then ran into some criticism that stopped me dead in the water. I set an intention to get going again last weekend, and your invitation caught my attention immediately! Yay! It has broken through the stoppage again. What was most helpful was the misbeliefs, and the question about what I'm avoiding writing about. But all of the writing prompts landed for me and were helpful! I loved the connecting with other participants at the end.
Being on virtual retreat with Jen is like being at in person retreat which means we will flow through the day, meditating, writing, discussing, learning and reading in small groups (no criticism, and it's super amazing and safe!). There will be lots of breaks and time to write on your own as we flow along!
For start, lunch, and finish times please see below.
Getting started in the coziest fun and productive way possible - watch your writing mind open and soar!
LUNCH BREAK FOR 90 MINUTES (please try to reserve this time for silence, rest, and maybe a walk)
We close the retreat with love!

My short e-book on How to Prepare for a Virtual Retreat & Take Care of Yourself During It to get focused and make this time yours
A huge fantastic e-book I created for my abruptly canceled Creative Live class on Going from Beginner to Writing Pro that includes dozens of links to publishing resources and favorite writing books and tons more!
The most valuable things from the retreat was to find time for my writing, being in a community of writers, the openness. And as much as I didn't want to read - I actually loved the readings! I absolutely would recommend it to other writers. I so miss being in the company of other writers but it's often hard to get away. This was the best way to do it without having to actually leave my house!
I loved the writing prompts and creating a space to keep writing. The retreat helped me get writing again, get my brain creating, feel close to others and feel safe. All of the experience would want me to join Jen again! Writing left-landed surprised me. The most important part people should know about a virtual retreat is you can make it as real as the real thing if you are willing to create it that way. Absolutely, I will recommend it.
I would want to retreat again with Jen because of the progression of work embedded in the prompts and writing exercises. It felt like all we had to do was trust the process, and sure enough, by the end of the day I had good raw material and feedback on what I had written.
Jennifer Louden is a personal growth pioneer who helped launch the concept of self-care with her first best-selling book The Woman’s Comfort Book. She’s the author of 6 additional books on well-being and whole living: The Couple’s Comfort Book, The Pregnant Woman’s Comfort Book, The Woman’s Retreat Book, Comfort Secrets for Busy Women (The Comfort Queen’s Guide to Life in hardcover), The Life Organizer, and A Year of Daily Joy. There are about a million copies of her books in print in 9 languages.
Jennifer has spoken around the U.S., Canada and Europe, written a national magazine column for a Martha Stewart magazine, been profiled or quoted in dozens of major magazines, and appeared on hundreds of TV and radio shows, even on Oprah. Jennifer has been teaching retreats and leading workshops since 1992, and creating vibrant on-line communities and innovative learning experiences since 2000. She married the love of her life at 50, and is the very proud mom of Lillian and very proud bonus mom to Aidan.
Jen’s superpower is… moving you from thinking and talking to DOING. Past retreat participants have self-published books, written national columns, gotten book deals, created and taught in-person and online courses, began full-time writing careers, and learned they are in fact, writers! Nothing would make Jen happier than to help you start and most importantly, FINISH some aspect of your writing project. Her belief is that we all have scary sh*t we want to get done and we’re more likely to do it when we’ve got a coach in our corner and a community of doers surrounding us.
You, me and a group of writers will gather on the video platform Zoom where I’ll be giving you writing prompts and leading sessions on a variety of topics BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY? We will get you writing and you be know what to write when we sign off!
You will put what I offer into play right away (best way to learn and get writing done!)
We will all meet on Zoom, I will explain how to read to each other, we will put you in small groups (4 or 5) and you will read aloud something you have written during the retreat. There will be no criticism but a simple powerful process of reflection you will find very empowering.
The large group teaching sessions will be recorded and we’ll send them to you. The small group reading session will not be recorded.
During the first session I’ll offer great ways to help you choose a focus for your writing. It’ll surprise you how easy it is to pick something you’re excited about - and how good it feels once you do.
That totally depends. This is not a bootcamp kind of writing experience at all. There’s no such thing as doing it right or being the “good student” who delivers a neatly packaged piece at the end. The goals of this virtual writing retreat are to:
It’s different in the most obvious of ways (we aren't together and there is no bacon!); however, when it comes to the teaching, I’ll be using some of the same material I do in my longer retreats and creating as close to an in-person experience as I can. I will create safety; share effective prompts; create clear containers of writing time so you get more writing done than usual; share tools and techniques to both free your voice and help you finish things and release fear; be goofy; love you up!
Immediately upon registering you’ll receive an email welcoming you to the retreats and offering some suggestions for how to prepare. You’ll also get a link to my short booklet on How to Prepare for a Virtual Retreat & Take Care of Yourself During It so that you can set yourself up to have the best experience possible and really take the whole day - maybe even the night before! The rest is easy. Just clear your schedule, show up and let the process take you!
Your payment is non-refundable. These are live events not pre-recorded classes.
If you wish to give it away your spot because of illness or your plans changing,
we can accommodate that up to 72 hours before we start.
I encourage you to make a thoughtful decision about whether or not
to register for any of these virtual writing retreats.
Joining a writing retreat with Jennifer Louden was a gift: a nourishment to my creative self, to the words and the mystery on the page that was beckoning me, and to the story that I know needed to be told. One of the best parts of the experience was finally carving out enough generous space to do the writing I know I need to do in this world.
She is smart, wise, and truly an expert in not only storytelling, but in leading and guiding you through your own writer's journey. She held the space and created a container for us to be open and honest and brave. I'm so grateful for her wisdom and skill at leading groups of people—she makes it seem easy (it's so not!) and lets you step away from whatever life is beckoning you with to finally, for a moment, for a day, for a week: get to tell the stories that only you can tell.

I got on the elliptical and I wrote. I am loving LOVING what it means to be off devices and news - so important! And it took this retreat to make me respect my writing time.
