The Desire Retreat

Get Your Bother On

Feed Your Creative Joy

Soak in the Love and Support You Need to Discover What's Next

We all come to times in our lives where we wonder, “Why bother?”

You might feel a lack of meaning and purpose in one area like your creative work, your career, your intimate partnership, or your health. Or maybe you feel more of a low-grade “meh” mood that is pervading everything.

What if this blahness, this “WTF?,” this blankness, was actually good news? A beautiful, even glorious, opportunity?

“Why bother?” is the fierce and loving question, that when you are brave enough to ask with self-compassion and honesty, can change everything.

But being brave enough, patient enough, or focused enough to ask it alone, can be tough. Confusing. Scary.

That’s why I created this retreat.

The truth is when you are in the “why bother?” place, it can be so difficult to settle down.

Your mind and body need rest, support, and guidance so you can stop seeing your future through the same old lens, and allow desire to animate and startle you in completely new and fresh ways.

How often have you tried to settle down, to listen for what’s next, to what’s calling you, to what you desire, only to get distracted again by work, other people’s needs, or checking social media or email?

How often have you tried to go through this transition alone and found yourself right back where you started?

This is so common and so normal! I did exactly the same thing over and over again!  That’s why I wrote my new book, Why Bother?, and why it's fantastic to have a seasoned retreat guide, a safe container, and powerful activities, reflections, and writing prompts to lead you toward what’s next.

Because here’s what I know for certain: your “what’s next” is vibrant, pulsing with life, meaning, and love, and it’s waiting for you.

Your next “why bother?” is already happening; it just might need a little help and attention to be heard and believed.

Here’s what best-selling author Rick Hanson had to say after he read an advanced copy of my book:

“This is a truly brilliant book. Jennifer Louden is warm, down-to-earth, and thoroughly practical as she explores the profound question of what matters most to each of us. It’s quite stunning how she weaves together personal stories, deep reflections, inspiration, and immediately useful actions. A gem.

- Rick Hanson, Ph.D., author of Buddha’s Brain and Resilient

There is so much I couldn’t include in the book that we will explore in this retreat.

Join us in Taos, NM at the historic and fascinating  Mabel Dodge Luhan House for 6 nights and 7 days devoted to resparking your creative joy and desire!

The Mabel Dodge Luhan House has been a famous gathering spot for writers, painters, and geniuses for close to a century. The house and Mabel’s hospitality inspired everyone from Georgia O’Keeffe to Carl Jung to Martha Graham to D.H. Lawrence.

As this is a historic building, you will encounter a degree of “funkiness” you wouldn’t find at the Ritz, but if you love stepping back in history and feeling like you are walking in Mabel’s shoes (or Georgia O’Keeffe, Ansel Adams, or even Dennis Hopper, who once owned the place), you’ll love it.

Walking the labyrinth, gazing up at Taos mountain, smelling the sage after a thunderstorm, strolling into town to take in the art and culture, or finishing up another healthy delicious meal, you might hear yourself think, “I could get used to following my desires.” And that, my friend, is exactly what this retreat is all about!

On our final day together, August 1st, we’ll enjoy our normal morning session before you head home.

The retreats I create are among the best on the planet.

Wow, that’s a bold claim.

Okay, I can’t know that for a fact, but what I do know is hundreds of women over the course of 20+ years have told me, “I have been to so many retreats and yours are the best.” I can’t wait to share this brand new Desire Retreat experience with you based on my new book, Why Bother? Discover the Desire for What’s Next.

“I love this book like I love my closest girlfriends, because just like them, it is funny and smart and brave. Like them, it is comfortable with the mess and the vulnerability--in me and in life. Like them, it digs into the details, the nuances of how we forge our paths, the stuff it often seems like no one is willing to talk about. Whenever I put it down while reading, I craved going back to it, for more mentorship and comfort.

It's a truism among us personal growth writers to say that everything we are writing about has been written about a thousand times before, but I'm telling you - this book is important, and it has never been written before.

-Tara Mohr, author, Playing Big: Practical Wisdom for Women Who Want to Speak Up, Create and Lead
